Maria Salouvardou

I live in Berlin and work as costume installation designer. Human hair was my first material for sculpture and installation working as a hair stylist. Apart from attaining an Economics degree, I studied Acting (Vasilis Diamantopoulos and Akis Davis Theatre Schools), Costume design and Scenography (Micro Polytechneio), History of Art (Spanish Spoudastirio), History of B&W Photography (PhotoCircle). I participated as costume designer and actress in various shows and performances and lectured at the Little University on recyclable materials for making clothes. My mixed media work consists of handwork techniques using various broken stuff, toys, dolls, plastic and paper garbage, threads, textiles and wires combining with music, text and video.

I restructure and compose with respect towards the environment. I love to combine objects and fabrics, upcycle them and transform them into art.
