Maria Salouvardou

I am an interdisciplinary artist creating vivid installations with costumes and shoes as contemporary art .

With origin from Greece, I live in Berlin. Apart from attaining an Economics degree, I studied Acting (Vasilis Diamantopoulos and Akis Davis Theatre Schools), Costume design and Scenography (Micro Polytechneio), History of Art (Spanish Spoudastirio) and History of B&W Photography (PhotoCircle).

The last 10 years I am creating a multidisciplinary fusion that combines costume and set design with the performing arts .The freedom of expression, and specifically the freedom of women, is a central theme in my Art. I am a weaver, not only of threads but also of women's lives. My performances are inspired by poetry and my voice resonates through needles, threads, papers, glue, brushes, wires, music and words, crafting a narrative . I upcycle, restructure and compose with respect towards the environment. I am always experimenting on new techniques on "paper making" and "textile art".

I participate in various exhibitions and perform internationally, spreading my messages deeply concerned with the inequalities, in a world fraught with patriarchy, conflict and heedless consumerism.
